DESCRIPTION:
TerraTop 710 –Terrazzo Overlayment, is a pre-mixed, polymer fortified cementicious toping, containing marble, granite, crushed stone, onyx, and glass chips. The mix is poured in place, cured, ground, and smooth polished to expose the aggregates.
USES:
TerraTop 710 – Terrazzo Overlayment is suitable for use as a toping in interior floors & walls ranging from residential to heavy commercial and industrial buildings.
ADVANTAGES:
- Unequaled longevity and durability.
- Quick and Easy to apply.
- Minimum need for maintenance.
- Wide range of application, 6mm to 30mm.
- Wide choice of matrix color and decorative aggregates.
- Unlimited design possibilities.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
TerraTop 710 can be applied on an array of bases. It is very compatible with new concrete, cement based tiles, and masonry. All bases should be sufficiently rigid, clean of any surface contamination that may prevent good adhesion. Dense, smooth surfaces, and those retaining excessive amounts of form release agent, can cause delamination. Any painted or coated surfaces should be sandblasted or pressure washed to remove existing coating. The base should be straight, true to line, and plane. Misalignment of substrate and cracks should be corrected with a patching compound such as PatchCrete 101,
Multi-Use Repair Mortar avoiding excessive and variable thickness within a single panel.
Apply a coat of BondCrete, Bonding Slurry (1:1) and leave to cure overnight.

MIXING:
Mixing should be completed by mechanical method preferably with a paddle type blender. Drill mounted jiffy type mixers can also be used. Always add clean potable water first. Mixing duration should occur within 3 to 5 minutes to insure proper color and material dispersion within mix. Generally 6-7 liters of clean water are needed per 35 kg bag of TerraTop 710.
APPLICATION:
Surface Application
TerraTop 710 can be applied manually or by machine to a thickness of not less than 6mm. and a maximum of 30mm.
Install all design elements prior to application of TerraTop 710. Aluminum, stainless steel, copper or glass strips can be used to outline the design. The strips must be securely fastened to the substrate. Saw-cut at least 10mm deep grooves wherever a design element exist, or at the end of a designated pour. Blast the groove with an air gun, and remove all the dust. Fasten the strips in the groove with a fast setting epoxy compound while making sure the top of the strip is at the level of the intended application thickness. These strips can be used as a guide for the screeding process.
Apply a diluted coat of BondCrete (1:2) to the already cured substrate. While still tacky, spread the TerraTop 710 mix using a gauge rake, or a lightweight screed. Smooth out the surface immediately with a Fresno, or a large rounded ends steel trowel, two to three passes only. Do not over trowel, the purpose is to fill voids left by the rake or screed only. Do not worry about the smoothness of the surface yet. Leave the surface undisturbed for 30-90 minutes, depending on the weather. The final smoothing process should occur at a time when the trowel leaves no evident marks on the surface. On large areas the use of a funny trowel is very efficient, if not available a Fresno or rounded end steel trowels work just fine. Bring the surface to a smooth steel trowel finish disclosing lines of the divider strips, again making sure not to over trowel or burn the surface. Leave the surface to dry for at least 6-12 hours depending on the weather. As soon as the surface can take the load of a person without any marks, apply a coat of A-Z 100, Curing Compound to the surface, and leave to cure.
CURING:
DO NOT WATER CURE. TerraTop 710 must only be cured by a membrane such as A-Z 100, Curing Membrane. The Overlayment must be left to cure for a minimum of 14 days prior to any grinding process.
GRINDING & POLISHING:
TerraTop 710, Terrazzo Overlayment can be polished by conventional methods and machines used to polish tiles, marble, and granite. Depending on the aggregates type in the mix, different grinding pads might be called for on occasions. Please consult your rep for details.
Start grinding with the coarsest pad appropriate to the finish desired. At least 120 grit is needed for a basic look. Always grind progressively through all the pads to the finest. Jumping from a very coarse pad to a much finer pad will make the smoothing process very difficult.
Good practice calls for grouting the surface prior to the final polishing sequence. This can be done using the matrix in TerraTop 710. Sieve the corresponding TerraTop 710 color through a fine screen, ladies stockings work very well. Alternatively, a grouting bag of TerraTop 710 can be ordered for big jobs.
After all grinding, grouting, and polishing is completed, generously flush the surface with plenty of water to remove the residue from the surface. Allow to dry overnight before sealing.
SEALING:
A minimum application of A-Z Penetrating Sealer is required to seal the matrix from dirt and water. TopSeal Acrylic Sealer is highly recommended to seal the surface against abrasion and absorption. The use of TopSeal Acrylic Sealer highlights and brightens up the appearance of the aggregates. On heavy commercial applications, a maintained wax coat application is recommended for maintenance.
COVERAGE:
On average 2.2 kg of TerraTop 710 per square meter per 1 mm thickness is dominant.
